Turkey Bell Pepper Dog Food Recipe

Turkey Bell Pepper Dog Food Recipe

Add some flair to tasteless turkey with this fabulous dog food recipe featuring green bell peppers, carrots, rice, red lentils, and a touch of Ceylon Cinnamon. The bell peppers and red lentils create a gravy base for this recipe by mashing them a little, while the turkey, carrots, and rice take center stage. Everything is unified with a touch of Ceylon Cinnamon.

We used organic ingredients with the approximate recommended ratio of protein (50%), grains (25%), and vegetables (25%). While there is salt in the Better Than Bouillon chicken base (stock), it is well within the recommended amount of salt, which dogs incidentally need to maintain optimal health.

  • Prep Time :10 Minutes
  • Cook Times :20 minutes
  • Yield :1-2 servings for a 10 pound dog
  • 8 oz. organic ground turkey
  • 4 oz. cooked white rice (We used Basmati rice)
  • 3 oz. green bell pepper
  • 2 oz finely grated carrots
  • 1/4 cup (1.5 oz) Cooked Red Lentils
  • 1/8 tsp. Ceylon Cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 tsp. Better than Bouillon Beef base
  • 2 tsp. Coconut Oil
  • 1.25 cups water
  1. Finely grate the carrots. The reason you grate it really finely is for it to cook well and create some juice in the recipe.
  2. Chop the bell pepper into rough pieces, add it to a pan with 1 cup of water, and boil for 5 minutes on medium-high heat. After boiling, add it to a blender with the cooking water and blend it a little, but not quite into a juice.
  3. Add 1 tsp. of coconut oil into a pan on medium-high heat, add the carrot, and sauté for 2 minutes. Remove it from the pan and set it aside.
  4. Add 1 tsp. of coconut oil and a 1/4 of the blended bell pepper into the pan. Ground turkey is sticky, so it needs a bit of fluids not to stick to the pan. Add the ground turkey to the pot and stir-fry quickly, breaking the turkey into very small pieces. About 2 minutes on medium-high heat.
  5. Add the remaining 3/4 of the blended bell pepper into the pan with the turkey. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently, on medium-high heat.

  6. Add the sautéed carrots, 1/2 tsp. chicken stock, 1/8 tsp. Ceylon Cinnamon powder, and 1/4 cup cooked red lentils. Mix well and cook for 4 minutes on medium-high heat.
  7. Add 1 cup of rice and 1/4 cup of water, reduce heat to medium, and cook for two minutes.
  8. Let it cool and serve it to your pet
